The College of Arts and Sciences developed the Common Learning Agenda to give students the education they need to live and work successfully in the 21st century. First-year students begin with a Foundation Seminar. The seminar provides an intimate introduction to college life and learning, and it also serves as an exploratory resource for those students who are undecided about their major.

Students in the College of Engineering begin their academic experience with a common course, Exploring Engineering, which gives them an overall understanding of engineering. As seniors, they complete a senior design project in their field of study.
